- Flood Relief Project

The National Flood Relief Project - Malta

The aim of the NRFP is to alleviate the vulnerability and risks of flooding in the most notorious localities affected by flash floods in Malta and to establish a sounder physical, operational and intelligence basis for integrated storm water and valley management.

More in detail, the objectives of the various designed components are to
-     Avoid increase in risks to life and property and control damages cause by flash floods;
-    Reduce vulnerability to climate change;

-    Design for storm events up to 1 to 5 years magnitude and focus first on areas with the highest density and   worst flooding problems;

 -    Address problems that originate from beyond each locality, by adopting a holistic catchments-based approach;

 -   Develop infrastructures that are suited to future maintenance, and, to valley management at large;

 -   Optimize the scope for local/national water conservation;
